Went into a pet store in a town about an hour from my home and spotted these corys. As I've been doing a little research on cory's lately, I figured I'd ask if anyone in the store could tell me what type they were. Asked one of the girls working (mid-30's), and she looks at me, and says "Oh my dear, those are easily identified as assorted corydoras." I couldn't help but laugh. I already knew there were a bunch of different types. I asked if I could speak to someone who knew about fish, and her response "It's all cat and dog people working today."

Talk about useless.

But the store was so clean, and the fish looked incredibly healthy, and the prices were good too, so if the corys are of any use to me, I'll go back and pick some up. Anyway. The corys were in a few tanks, they had a grey body with a blue-green spot behind their gills under their top fins... They were fairly small, about the same size as my male peppered cory.

Could someone ID Them for me? Here are some pictures I took using my cellphone camera, the only camera I had on me at the time, I apologize for the quality issues...

Ive never heard of a cory with green spots, however the picture looks like a bronze cory possbily

It wasn't a green spot. It was a blue-ish-green-ish colour. It wasn't Blue as I would describe it, as it had a bit of a greenish tinge.

I had originally thought it was a bronze cory, but after comparing the pictures I have to the ones on planetcatfish, I've noticed that their pictures all have the blue-green-colour extending down the body of the cory, whereas the ones I saw, the colour was a circle below their top fins, and didn't extend down the length of their body. There were a good 20 or so of them in the tank I was looking at, and all of them had the same blue-marking; just a circle, not extending down their body like the bronze corys on Planetcatfish.

I could just be yammering on about nothing, as I don't assume to be a catfish expert, and really my own experience with corys doesn't go far past peppered corys, but the differences in the colouring on the fish in planetcatfish, and the fish I took pictures of, seems a little too different...

Yeah, probably a green bronze variant.
