Can Some One Id This Wood Is It Safe For My Tank

this wood has been sat on the side for ages and my mum was gonna chuck it out so asked for it



but is it fish safe its real hard and dont seem to have any sap or anything

heres the broken ends

It looks as if there is some form of varnish or something similar on it. If it does, that would make it unsuitable for a fish tank, if it dosen't then you should be safe.

yeah it does seem very shiney but it hasnt got varnish on i thinks its just realy smooth

what about giving it a good sand all over that would get rid of any varnish if there were any wouldnt it?

it is very nice looking wood!

wood look nice in a well planted tank...sorry couldnt resist the pun!

yeah

but its going in my 8ft so no plants as my silver dollars

looks like diamond willow. hard light twisty wood that is used for making walking sticks. could also be a type of oak that is nicely weathered.
id give it a good clean and go for it! very nice. certainly doesnt look like a pine or hemlock or other soft wood. they dont grow like that and the growth rings are too tight. softwood grows relatively fast and has bigger "layers", usually.
