Can Rams Die When Spawning?

I just got back (been away for a week) and noticed one of my rams was dead on the bottom of the tank. She was full of colour and quite fat. (I am not sure if I saw her earlier, alive).

Anyway, I have removed her from the tank and she was not moving at all. Her eyes were completely black and not the usual red colour. I gently squeezed her belly and lots of eggs came out.

The male ram is now protecting that area of tank, but I cannot see any eggs there.

Could she have died during the egg-laying process?

I have had kribensis die during spawning( quite sad, very pretty female) so I guess it is possible. Probably from the stress of starting to lay eggs.

My Krib died during spawning i took her back to the lfs and they said she has died from spawing they gave me a new one but they died a year later .
