Can It Really Rain Fish....?

Well... In SA we have a saying that it is Raining "cats & Dogs".... ... Never seen it though, but one thing I've seen.... I was standing next to one of my outside ponds, and out of the blue, a frog "ploffed" into the pond...... I later deducted that a bird caught a frog from a nearby pool and dropped it into my pond as it flew over..... Rare, but I saw it.

I have heard the saying it raining cats and dogs too ludwig venter, but could never figure out were this originated from.
