The carpet is dry but I can't use that powder stuff because I think I'm allergic to it because when I used in the living room when live x-mas tree stand cracked and leaked some water I used it when it dried and it made my legs itch like crazy to the point where my legs were almost solid red. The carpet foam stuff doesn't seem to bother me so I guess I'll use that. Thanks guys I guess I just didn't want to take a chance on the odor harming my fish so thats why I asked.
Just do the 'shake n vac and put the freshness back, do the shake and vac and put the freshness back. You carpet smells fresh, ur room does too....doing the shake and vac is all you have to do !'

Just show you what a fantastic advertising campaign can do!! Still singing & recommneding the product becuase of it 20yrs later!!

I think it's an alright question for durb to of asked because some cleaners have fumes that may do something to the tank water.

I think you are very sensible to ask that question, Durbkat. I would personally be wary of any product that is meant to change the air around my tanks. Hair spray is another one aquarists are warned off. I'd go for the plastic sheet instead.

Yep, Good questions.

When i use Flea spray around the house (Just Incase) i have to make sure my tanks are well covered because that stuff is lethal to any aquatic life :(

So no way was this a dumb question! :D

Hi, I haven't spilled any large quantity of water (yet!). I put an old dog blanket down to put the syphon on when I have finished with it. I use 2 plastic bags inside each other for the old filter media. I remember the shake n vac very well (being old) it was very irritating. I think it actually came from the US and the woman's voice was dubbed for the UK. :)

or you could just sprinkle baking soda over the spilt water. let the powder sit there and absorb the moisture, then vacuum. no mess and no stink! i once spilt liquid laundry detergent on my carpet; one box of baking soda later and you would have never guessed.

baking soda is a great deodorizer, dirt cheap, and you probably already have some in the kitchen. in a pinch, cornstarch (the powdered kind) will also work well for soaking up spills but i'm not sure that it would help much with any odors.

Well I used it and the fish are fine. The bad news I sprayed to much and I had to sleep on the couch in the living room since it was to strong.

sorry to jump in with a question of my own, but Does Air fresheners effect Your fish? I was a little worried about using Oust in my room incase some got into the tank so i have went for these envolopes filled with smelly stuff. Kinda hard to find one thats ok with my room cos they all smell like "Summer Garden" or "Winters Day" Never know they mite be as harmfull as the spray...?

i think spray is only harmful if the actual spray goes in the tank.

not if its jus in the room.

could be wrong tho.

i smoke, spray deoderant and im sure my mum comes in with some smelly stuff to un smelly my room lol

never had any trouble with it before.
