Hi

I have a 10g with 5 Harlequin Rasbora and 2 Panda Corydoras.

I would like more bottom feeders, i.e. more pandas, but all of my local fish stores have stopped selling them. Are they any alternatives I could get?

Also could I get a centrepiece fish?

Cheers

Obviously keeping more of the same species is far preferable. Have you asked any of the shops if they'll order some in for you? There aren't many shops that won't do that.

It would have to be one of the pygmy cory species. like C. habrosus or C. hastatus; all the others are too large for a ten gallon, I'm afraid.

Personally, I wouldn't have a 'centrepiece' fish; I'd get more harlequins and have them as the centrepiece, but you could look into a betta, or one of the smaller gourami species, like honeys or dwarfs.

If they won't/can't get in anymore how taking the pandas back and getting some smaller corys

Why don't you get bronze, peppered or even albino? There are many different types of cory, don't restrict yourself to just pandas. About the centrepiece fish, I would also suggest a smaller gourami species.

Albino cories are usually an albino form of the bronze cory, they (and the peppered) can get to around three inches long, which is just too big for a 10 gallon.

Personally i would add 1 more Harlequin Rasbora and 1-2 more Panda Corys tops- this would benefit the fish you currently have the most. I wouldn't add anymore species as although the filtration may handle it you may risk over-crowding the tank.

Ok I'll take your advice and keep the Harlequin Rasbora as the centrepiece. They are pretty cool they seem to school more than my Black Phantom Tetra community.

Anyway I have moved my Betta into a smaller tank, I feel quite bad for downgrading him but he is quite a lazy fella anyway. Its a 12 x 8 x 8 and I'm running a sponge filter for him.
Is this tank adequate for him?

Also I have another question regarding the internal filter in the Rasbora and Panda 10g.
My spray bag is pointed towards the centre of the tank and is just below the surface causing large ripples. Is the current too strong as when I put fish food in it gets thrown everywhere?
This fish seem to be enjoying the current and aren't looking for shelter so is this ok?

Cheers

Try moving the filter down a bit so the surface has less movement. You don't need alot of surface ripples for oxygen transfer.

I would rehome the Panda's and go with a smaller species too as this will enable you to have the correct number of them. Also make your HR numbers up to 7.

:good:

Your sponge filter should be fine for your Betta. What size tank is it? the dimensions sound ok to me, but i am no Betta expert.
