Can I Put All The Daphina In My Tank Driectly?

I bought some live daphina for my fish. I know they only survive in very clean water, and some ppl breed them in a coke bottle to get constant live food supply. I was wondering, can i put all those daphina in my tank directly? My point is, fish will eat some of them, the rest will live them and breeding. As they like clean water, thus i guess it will not cause water problem, so i can kill two birds with one stone. Any suggestion? Many thanks

Unless your tank is extremely heavily planted, the fish will get all the Daphnia. Secondly, it is generally considered to be good practice to rinse all live food, altho not all people do this.

Daphnia will live just fine in the tank long enough to be eaten, unless you have too much copper in the water. Copper in low concentrations will kill most inverts. I would not expect to find any daphnia in the tank after a day or two though. I have kept daphnia before, and used them to feed my fish. The biggest trouble keeping daphnia is finding a food source for them. Green water is a good choice for feeding daphnia but I just can't seem to grow much indoors and this time of year it is way too cold outdoors. You could try a 3 step process where you let the tank the fish are in get very green, raise the daphnia in another tank and then net some of the daphnia back into the fish tank. Green water just takes tons of light and a bit of nitrogen to really grow well. Your fish could provide the nitrogen in that cycle.
