Can I Let A Plant Float? My Creative Side Lol

Hi All,
 
Just wondering could i let one of my plants float naturally??
 
it was planted in sand but i think it was a bit that broke of and look very good as is has latched onto the outlet pipe in the corner.
 
Would it still grow ,,, or should i say will it not die??
 
I think it looks fab just would like some advice please

I have some stem plants (Cabomba) that I just let float.  Also some Ludwigia.  I even have a couple of small Swords floating until the roots get a bit more growth.  
Never have had any issues with them just floating.

I let some elodea float too if it gets uprooted inbetween tank maintenance, have never had it die off, and the Gouramis seem to like hiding underneath it too.
