Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice.

I'm wondering if it would be advisable to keep angels in my tank. It's a 155L tank measuring 60x40x60. The current occupants of the tank are 4 honey gourami, 6 cardinal tetra, 2 german blue rams, 6 cories, plus snails and shrimp.

I'm aware that the cardinals may be an issue as they eat neons in the wild, but if I'm honest they're my least favourite fish so I wouldn't mind either leaving them in there and seeing what happens or removing them and replacing with something else if necessary (I intend to buy the angels small).

My water is very soft, and my pH is below 7. I change my water weekly and never change less than 50%, but usually a fair bit more.

I've been reading around on the internet but have found much conflicting information.

I'm perfectly fine if you guys think angels wouldn't be suitable for my tank, I just can't find this advice on the internet.

Thanks in advance :)

angels would be fine with your tank. your angels might leave the cardinals alone though since they are bigger then neons. but angelfish and shrimps won't work together and i don't know about angelfish and snails. what would you keep the temperature at though?
GBRs prefer about 80-85 degrees. Angelfish prefer 76-about 82 (i don't know for sure) Honey gouramis like is about 74-78 degrees. but for breeding purposes the temperature for the would have to be raised and i don't think the gouramis will like it. all the degrees are in farenhiet. i also don't know for sure though

I agree with Questions?. The rams should not be included here, (no mean to sound harsh) they do require higher temps to thrive and live a happy life. Bolivian rams are a much better choice.

Back onto topic, i think a single angel will be fine in here, but watch them cardinals ;)

I've currently got the temperature at 25.5C, which my research tells me is close to the upper limits for the cories, cardinals and gourami while being on the lower limit for the rams but its doable. All fish seem happy and healthy and have been this way for a good few months now, though I'll likely replace them with warmer species if and when they eventually pass away. I was a bit of a numpty and bought the rams after checking everything about them except the temperature, but they seem healthy and active enough.

Is it possible to keep just the one angel? What are the guidelines for hqving them in groups? (Different websites have told me different things)

Another thing - how do you go about introducing angels of different sizes to the same tank? Again, different sources say different things. One LFS has some lovely marbled angels about 5cm long, while another has some lovely plain black and white ones not much bigger than a 2p coin.

Thanks for the advice :)

Also, the shrimp I have are amano shrimp which are bigger than most other shrimp I've seen. Don't know if this would make any difference to their likelihood to be eaten.

Cichlids and Shrimps just dont mix them, when the shrimps shed there skin they will be eaten, i had a Bamboo Shrimp about 5 years ago that was around 3.5" and when he shed his skin my Kribensis pair that where around the same size tore him to bits.

Wow, really? I'm not fussed about my amano but I don't want to put my bamboo shrimp at risk. Beginning to think that maybe angels aren't the fish for me.

Probably the place for another thread now, but any suggestions for any other cichlids that would be compatible with my GBRs?

well angelfish can be compatible, just not with the rest of the other tankmates in the picture. angels could handle the lower temperatures of the GBR, but the others couldnt. and 25.5 degrees celsuis s to low for GBRs and to high for corys (they will shorten the life of your cories). But you could do:
2 GBRs, 6 sterbai corys (they like the higher temps), 6 cardinals (only if they are too big for the angels to fit in ther mouths) and 1 angelfish. and you could keep the temperature at 80 or 81 degrees farenhiet
