Can I Have To Cycle This?

heyaa,

as some of you no, i have a very sick honey gourami and lately i have noticed some fish have been acting a bit off, so i really want to move her, however (i no its pretty bad) i have no hospital tank!

however i have a spare 15ltr biorb tank that has been cycled and had fish in before, could i fill it with water, and put a bit of filter media in it and then put my gourami in?

cant you treat her in the main tank? the chances are the other fish already have the disease and just arent showing syptoms

yeah iv treated her, but i cant treat it again until day 6, which is monday, which i doubt she will make.

what shall i do when she passes away, keep treating the tank for about a week, and if no symptoms occur, then stop using?

im doing daily water changes at 25%.

well, im still not 100% sure what it was, however shes sadly passed away i peered back into the tank about 10min ago and shed passed away.

i prosume its just like a fungus infection or something, so im treating it for fungus, internal infections ... it treats a fair bit.

Do any of them have any fungus growths on them? Any showing signs of stringy white poo?

If your doing daily water changes, have you been re-dosing with the meds to compensate for the amount that would have been taken out with each w/c?

Have you increased aeration into the tank as meds will knock the amount of 02 in the water?

faith had a little white spot above her mouth a few days before she died, none of the other fish have (phew!) erm stringy white poo - no they are perfectly normal. when i do my water changes, i use wtaer coditioner and the med i have to treat on day 1,2,3 and 6 and 7.
im on day 5 so am treating them tomorrow. i have increased the areation in the tank yes.

If there are no signs of illness in the other fish, then I would stop treatment, do a 30% w/c and run some carbon in the filter to remove any trace of meds. There is no point in medicating unless you need to.

^^ yep i definatly would too, after loosing one, i dont want to lose anymore. ill keep the med going for another week then stop if no symptoms occur.

Its entirely your choice, I personally would rather not subject them to meds that werent necessary but plenty of people do it the other way.

I wouldn't treat fish that aren't sick either. It would be better to try to find out what caused the problem in the first place and eliminate it. Do extra water changes to remove the medicine, vacuum the substrate well, and get things back to normal as soon as possible.

hmmm i recently had columaris ( mouth rot) n my tank and did actually go 2 days at one point between 1 fish dying from it and seeing another starting to show the symtoms, its gone now,sadley so have the fish that contracted it.. but the stress of all that ( lowered temp and meds) has caused and outbreak of whitespot.. i would wait TBH and see if any one of them shows symptoms, meds take a heck of a toll on them
