Can Fish Be Fedex'd?

I think distributors by lots of the fish from overseas and then sell the to the trade..

Really not sure about this m8. sorry

Yes they are.

There are many mail order fish companies, and a lot of the fish in the aquarium industry are shipped from Singapore etc to our local fish shops.

Yup, I got most of my cichlids by way of FedEx. :good:

If you do have them FedExed, make sure you get them overnight and to where you will be, work for instance. You don't want to miss the delivery and have them go back to the terminal and sit another night. Also, if you do have them shipped to work, you should open the box to check their condition but don't open the bags unless it's a situation where the bag/bags are leaking until you are ready to start acclimating them.

I sometimes buy fish eggs from the States and they come via USPS. (to Northern Ireland)

How often will they survive when they're fedex'd for instance?

So does this mean there are online fish shops where you can buy via web cam and digital shots?
(just kidding!)

Seriously, is this (shipping) fairly common for specialty fish (cichlids were mentioned) and if so, which ones? Angels?

Do any of you know of any online places?

thanks, --waterdrop--

Done properly near 100%. Fast for 24 hours for smaller fish, 48 hours for larger, before shipping. Insulated containers, with heat packs. You do have to keep an eye on the weather, it's -2F by me now, with -20F wind chills, you don't ship fish now. The middle of summer is another time you need to watch the weather, and delay shipping if it's too hot.

They are in transit less than 24 hours when using a reliable carrier, overnight shipping is not cheap though.

Aquabid is a huge site where everyone for the most part ships. There are plenty of online breeders, they specialize in quality fish. Angels Plus is a big angel supplier, Mellow Aquatics is another, though they are in the process of moving. Jeff Rapps specializes in wild caught cichlids, all of these outfits ship.
