Can Filters Be Used On Their Side?

Got 3 tanks and 4 filters

1 x fluval 106 in my 90 litre curved front
1 tetra 700 in my 45 litre curved

Got 2 #105###ty filters sitting spare

Tempted to use my tetra for my new 110 litre tank and put the crappy filters in my 45 litre

Problem is the bigger 1 is too tall,

So would I be able to use it on its side?

The 2 are the same as that, 1 came with my 90l and the smaller with my 45l
