Can Acrylic Tanks Develop A Funky Smell?

My guppy tank has real plants (all are doing okay. the anubius is doing wonderfully). All the bettas have silk ones. I came home with two anubius plants for two of the little bettas. The rest of the plants at the LFS looked crappy so I'll go back next week to see if they have any better ones. Instead of having them check the water I bought the Nitrate test kit (especially because I want to test all my tanks).

They did have hornwort however I wasn't sure if it was okay with bettas. I'll pick some of that up.
