Can they?

I only ask, as my male VT seems to slowly be changing colour. He came as a royal blue, with a red/turquoise front bottom fin. As he become comfortable in his surroundings, from his head backwards, he turned a more electric blue, which he has stayed at.

A few days ago, I was worried as his tail seemed to have darker bits, which looked black. So I started panicking that he was getting fin rot and I jumped into a 30% water change. Kept an eye on him and today, those 'blacker bits' have turned red, like the red on his front fin. Not big bits, only a few tip ends have turned this colour. I have also noticed that 3 scales, 1 on his right side an 2 on his left side, have gone from an electric blue colour to a turquoise colour.

I've had male VTs before and never had this colour change with them. But I have also noticed that he is bubble nesting more regularly, every other day now, rather then every 4 - 5 days, could this induce this slight change in his colour?

Thanks

This one i would like to know too as i got my betta yesturday and it was all turquoise color colour but now it's more purple and as glowing reds and blues? colour seams to be more bright and looks better, this is a question i was talking about to my nephew tonight saying it most be a cameleon betta lol

yes they can "change" color and it can be quite dramatic. especially if you JUST buy them and put them in nice surroundings with good food. they sometimes "wash out" when stressed and become paler than normal. good conditions and they show much brighter colors. young bettas in particular can also change color as they mature. and certain color strains (marbles in particular) can change so dramatically youd think it were a different fish altogether!
so long as there is no other signs of illness (white fluff/fuzz/red streaks through the body or fins, etc) it is normal for some bettas. they all change a little as they mature.
cheers

I have no experience with that, but my betta seemed happier and brighter blue when he moved out of about 2 cups of water and into a 5.5 gal tank!
Also, pics!

He won't stay still long enough for a photo  but I will try to make a short video. Maybe better to do it, when he is in the bigger tank.

No other illness signs, they are proper colors and not fading, his bubble nests are becoming more frequant too and he's getting more dominant with his territory. Not sure how old he was when I got him, LFS siad about 5 - 6 months old, I've had him little over a month now.

probably just maturing. its fun to see what they "turn" into :)
cheers
