So I've noticed a few of my platties, my swordtail, and maybe my silver mollies have this reddish looking string coming from their body. At first I thought it to be fish waste, or maybe even a penis ( ) but from what I've read it may be nemotodes, or camelanus worms. However, after a bit more research, it said these worms retract at any tinge of movement... these eventually fall up and get sucked off into my vacuum.

Do I potentially have a worm outbreak? If so, what can I treat with, that would be readily available at stores like petco?

After close examination, quite a few fish have it, and they do fall out. Is it just, hopefully, waste? It's red and stringy. Some detach, some don't. Few of my plattys look bloated, but my GF insists they're pregnant...

If it is indeed camellanus worms, do I have to wash my filter media? I use it to cycle my tanks faster.. :(

If they eventually fall off, then it's definitely poo and not worms.

Try not feeding for a day and then feed some lightly cooked, shelled peas (in case they're a little constipated; stringy poop can be a symptom of mild constipation)
