I am planning on treating my tanks for camallanus worms for the next 36-40 hrs. I have read that this drug is only effective if the pH is not above 7.0. My pH when lights are off is about 6.9, during the day it is abut 7.1-7.2…..

I think I will leave the lights off for 36hrs during treatment so that my pH is not above 7.0; does this sound like a good idea?

I am concerned about pH dropping too low. I am adding co2 via the yeast DIY method. My KH = 95 and pH is as described above in all of my tanks.

I am going to treat the water with levamisole HCL. I thought that feeding the drug (in food) to the fish with visible signs of camallanus at the same time ; anyone know if feeding at the same time as the whole tank being treated is a good idea?

I am posting in emergencies and planted tanks due to the variety of info I am asking for.

PS:I have some GREAT info for DIY yeast reactors, strait from my microbiology prof; I will post that when am I am not busy trying to save my fish from these nasty nematodes!

Turning off the lights should be fine, if you turn off the lights just turn off the CO2 as well or remove the unit from the tank during treatment.

hmmm, you think I should turn off the co2? yes actually that does make sence, I was thinking of leaving the co2 going to keep the pH down but with no lights on the pH should stay down on its own, right?

another question, with the treatment method I have read , it suggests a 80-90% water change after 36-48hrs of teatment, If I do this my ph will go from 6.9 to 7.8 very fast, I am concerned about this....How much of a pH swing is too much for the fish?

The drug I am going to use is only effective at pH at or below 7.0, my pH is 7.1, is this close enough? (I know this is a very difficult question)
I am planing on running my tanks with lights off and co2 on until ph = 7.0 ; but really my tests are not even that accurate so perhaps I should just go ahead with treatment, yes? or no? I know from my chemistry courses at university that I could calculate the dosage increase requred due to the Ph being 0.1 higher than recommended but I have no idea how to do this calculation....anyone know?

I also know I can contact the company that makes the drug but I need to treat my fish NOW.....

The fish should be ok with the ph swing, im not familar with the medication so cannot give you any advice on that.
