had my 2 pike cichlids (Crenicichla sp. xingu II) now for a week but the slightly larger 1 literally keeps the other penned in a small corner of the tank where he hides behind the heater,

there are pleanty of hiding places for them both and the tank is not to well lit. is there anyway of calming them down or do i take the aggressor out why the little one settles in and then re introduce the other one in a week or so?

any advice greatly appreciated

The tank isn't big enough for them both, one needs rehoming as they are only going to get more aggressive as they age

What is the volume of the tank? it doesn't really look big enough for one adult IMO

Pike cichlids are very intollerant of one another, unless they are a pair the chances are it wont work. You could try swapping the decor/reintroducing but in the long I don't think it will work.

the tank is 2.5 foot and been as they are both only 3" tops thought it would be alright for now.

planning on getting a bigger tank for them as soon as money allows hopefully within 2 months unless a bargain appears sooner

I put a 3 inch cobra pike into my 6ft tank in March I had to take him out within a week cos he terrorised a much larger Clown Knifefish, fire eel and Prochilodus. Those fish although beautiful have loads of aggression
