Stupid question time to which I suspect that I know the answer but just looking for a few nods to confirm.
Having just bought a new tank I calculated the Volume to be 56 USG or 212 L - 48x15x18
Yet after adding the substrate - 4 bags of eco and 2 bags of Volcanit, I added the water and based on buckets used I get 45 USG or 170 L. With this in mind am I right in thinking that all dosing and WPG calculations should be based around the "usable" volume and not the theoretical i.e. empty tank volume?
I've been working out Nitrate dosing based on the usable and although I'm adding dry I have managed to hit 20ppm based on my calcs, not mixing the Nitrate in solution form at the moment as my brother has the digital scales and he also has a nasty dose of flu
My lighting has also been calculated with the usable volume which should in theory give me 3.6 WPG by using 3 55W compacts
So give me a nod if my assumption is correct or a slap if I'm totally wrong
Cheers
