Buying Fish With White Spot

Hi all,
I went to a shop today and have seen 2 cyclids that have paired up, and are about to lay eggs.

It quite cute really, as the female has her tube out and is about ready!!! She's made her nest and just doing practice runs, whilst the male is fending off all possible preditors!!!

The only problem is, that they have a slight touch of white spot!!! The guy in the store has assured me that it will be cleared up by tomorrow (1st July, 2006). But just unsure, as I have quite a few fish in my 180 litre tank and dont want it to spreed!!!

What do you guys think?

well, you shouldn't buy sick fish, and a seller should not sell you a sick fish, but if you absolutely have to have a fish that is sick, I wouldn't suggest it if you don't have a hospital tank.

[edit] hmm... on second thought, even if you have a hospital tank you probably shouldn't because you will end up messing with their medication schedule.

but if you mean cichlids, it depends a little on WHAT cichlids, but most are very territorial and do not make good communtiy fish.

mm.. check in the new world cichlid forum, i think, for their temperament. i'm pretty sure those guys aren't african, but i don't know a whole lot about them. they will be able to tell you more, and if they will be compatible with the community you already have.

Couldnt you put down a deposit to secure them for you, then you can pay the rest , and take them when the white spot has cleared up ?

Have you already bought them ? If not, don't do it ?
If you have bought them - are they in a quarantine tank ? If not I sincerely hope they are not in your 180 litre tank

I have bought them, but they are still in the store, quarantined!

I can pick them up when the white spot has cleared!

Just wondered what the likely hood is, of the white spot reappearing, once it has finally cleared up?!?

make sure they are treated for a week after the last white spot is gone. It may be a bit more than that I'm not sure.
