Thinking of purchasing fish online, specifically from http://www.aquaticstoyourdoor.co.uk

Anybody bought any fish from there?, abit dubious of buying fish online for obvious reasons.

Anybody know of any other good sites?

I haven't bought from that site, but I have bought quite a few fish online; from members here and from Kesgrave, on ebay.

The trick with mail order fish is the acclimatisation process. This has to be done very slowly (I prop the bags in a bucket and drip water in with a piece of airline with a knot in it until the bags are full) and preferably in a dim light.

I do not know how sites in the UK are, but I too, have bought online, and I have always recieved good quality fish. As Fluttermoth said, the acclimitization is the most important part. The fish come to you already mildy stressed from the shipping process, so they are more prone to problems changing into different water conditions

I am not on the UK so I can't tell about this shop but I bought online fish twice, drip acclimated in a bucket until the Ph equaled to mine(it was majorly different) and none died or got sick so it is quite safe if you are careful. If the shop is better, they'll send you additionally water without fish separately so you can move the fish from the bags into ammonia free water and then drip acclimate to yours for as long as it takes(don't rush it) I don't float bags because you can suffocate fish like that.
I did receive dead shrimp from an onlne order from a different shop but the packaging they used was so poor it's unreal so it depends on the shop but the most established ones should know how to send live orders properly.
As for selection and disease, if you don't have a selection of fish in a local shop even an online order is better and I doubt it someone will send you skinny/diseased fish knowingly but who knows...

ive brought online, and and posted myself, if done properly there is no problem, just had 10 baby kribs sent by peter clarke, see for sale board,
blinking excellent, just the way it should be done, if people know what they are doing there is no prob at all, how do you think fish get to fish shops.
They are flown and couried just the same, experience is key.

I've had dozens of fish through the post and not lost one yet! :good: Have never personally used the one you've linked, but their ebay profile shows lots of positive feedback :)

Honestly, the fish that I have bought on line/ thru the mail have been better than most of the fish I have bought locally. My biggest issue has been variety in local stores and I know they can't carry everything. So if you want something specific, it's cheaper to order them yourself instead of thru them. Hopefully you can find a reputable supplier.

Thanks,
Steve
