Was that to me? Because if it is, then i dont have to pay postage fees and also i can be sure the fish is eating and healthy before i buy it and it wont be DOA and i wont have to go through the long process of refunding or sending other fish out. I just ask them to order it and they get it and i pay maybe less for the actual fish than i would have on the net (w/o postage). So i save on postage and get a good price on the fish and i am sure its healthy and eating. I dont have to buy it though.

i can see your point on wanting to see the fish before purchase. but there is no way that your going to pay less than the cost the store pays(they need to turn a profit) but in most cases the fish you find in stores have bad genetics (over inbreeding and more prone to disease) but with all things everything is different from case to case.

Online stores need to turn a profit also, i cant see how fish in a LFS have bad genetics, well i can but so dont alot of the fish we have today. Im not saying they all have bad genetics im saying they are quite inbred to give us new versions and patterns. My LFS has lower prices on fish than i have seen on the net. They quality of the fish are also very good, there not cheep diseased fish. I can understand what your saying but dont LFS and online stores get stock from the same people unless they are the people.

from what i have heard most lfs stores get there fish from other countries like indonisia, on fish farms. kind of the equivelant to puppy mills. most chain stores do NOT buy there fish from local breeders.

IMO not a good idea

apart from the stress to the fish I like to see the conditition of a fish before I buy it

Also like to see it feeding

That may have been inbred and have a disease later on or abnormlity when buying from LFS. (Not saying NOT to or that it's a bad idea just that a LFS has a down side.)

What about people that want F0's or F1's? What about people that want fish that won't breed in captivity? :)

I can't say for sure but off hand I would say that in the beginning I only bought from LFS but the last 10 years probably 90% are from online and 100% of my show fish is online.

I don't see a problem with it. Many people don't have much of a choice for fish. I just get my lfs to order me what I want. Then there is no shipping charge and I get to see it's condition before actually paying for it. I do not look at my lfs as being the middleman either. He buys lots of fish and gets them cheaper than I would be able to get it myself online anyway. Overall I end up paying just a bit more but I can see the fish first and I am supporting my lfs instead of joebloe online fish store or one of the terrible chains.

Yeah i didn't think about them being shipped to my lfs. so i am now more happy to buy fish online but only if the company don't sell coloured fish

I get fish shipped online from time to time. Only ever had one problem and that was due to a minor address error. The fish all arrived safely.
