Since i can't find a decent lifs(all of them have so many sick fish) i'm actually considering buying fish online. Did anyone ever do that, you think it's a good idea? And if yes, can someone reccomend a good site? thanks

two sites with good selection are:
http://www.liveaquaria.com
(doctors foster and smith) and
http://www.aquariumfish.net/
both of these ship in the us
i haven't ordered myself though for two reasons: 1) i prefer to hand pick my fish based on their behavior and appearance (healthy and nice looking), and 2) unless you order a lot of fish, you could end up paying more for the shipping cost than for the fish (usually between $20 and $30 just for shipping)
plus, they tend to have other special shipping requirements which for an apartment dweller such as myself, in hot arizona, just isnt feesible for me. but since you dont' have any good lfs in your area, maybe you should go for it. it is a good way to get harder to find fish........................

I have bought a few fish via mail order and apart from the shipping costs have found it to be just as good as buying fish from the lfs, the fish i bought were ones that i had been trying to find for a long time and could not get from my local shops so i didnt mind paying the bit extra for them.

My neigbour bought fish online and the company sent them the wrong fish!
The fish were suppose to be clownfish but they got really expensive cichlids
They kept them of course!

If you meant clownfish not clown LOACHES then thats a major screw up even if it came out to thier own good. They gave your neighbor a FW fish instead of a SW fish!!!

Yikes! now that is a major stuff up!
I hope the cichlids didnt mind the salt water tank   haha oopsy indeed!

What I dont understand is how do they transport them safely? Do the internet companies deliver them personally or do they courier them?

I ordered from Live Aquaria one time , it was a good experience for me .

I ordered the fish , they gave an approx delivery date and confirmed the actual delivery date both on line and by telephone .

The fish arrived alive[ a good thing ] , after to 2 days 1 out the 15 FISH I ordered died , not bad .
They came well packaged [ insulated ], with directions for acclimatizing

If I had a problem finding fish in a LFS I would do it again .

Sometimes ya gotta take a chance .

mine came FED X

I've ordered fish online twice... a pair of bettas from Aquabid and a giant plakat from Ebay. All arrived alive and healthy. The shipping is killer, but definitely worth it if you're looking for a fish you can't find elsewhere ;)
Edit: Whoops, late-night grammar problems.
