I am thinking of buying a 3ft fish tank on ebay. In the picture of it, the lid looked slightly odd, so I asked the seller a question about it and they said that there is a Clear Seal hood with light in the middle of the top that doesn't go the full length of the tank but fits it, and a condensation tray that is tight fitting that covers the rest of the top of the tank to stop fish jumping out. If anyone knows what kind of setup I am on about- I was wondering if it looks ugly or doesn't look natural? Also, what does a condensation tray do? Thanks

i cant answer the first bit but condensation trays are pieces of plastic which reduce water loss by decreasing evaporation and act as a barrier to protect electricals :)

oh and it stops your fish jumping out! :p

ask them to post a better picture of the hood and condensation sheet, these condensation sheets are see-through and are mainly used to keep in fish & heat. These are also used when there is a full fitted hood. In my opinion I think it will not look as good and you will lose a lot of light, if its not covered properly by the hood but is by the condensation sheet.
Could you send a picture of the hood and plastic sheet?

Thanks. It's only 99p and it doesn't look like it's going to see for anymore than that! but I didn't want to buy it if it looked ugly :p I've posted a picture for you to see

is that the photo of the tank
looks like a three foot tank with and 18 inch
or 2 foot hood on it be careful when buying
tanks of eBay my friend bought one only to
find that when it arrived the bottom was smashed
your best looking in your lfs notice board
or the classifieds in the local paper that way
you could go and see what you are getting before you buy
or put a wanted ad in the local shop window or notice board

Yeah that just looks like a 2ft hood put on top of a 3ft tank :p

Yup, agreed, and they've used 3ft condensation trays to fill the gaps to stop fish jumping out. May be OK if you can find a 3ft lid/hood for it? Oh and check it's watertight in the garden first :good:

Well I took all of your advice and have decided not to bid on it- even if it is a bargain! I guess I'll just have to hope another tank comes along! Thanks for all your advice
