Build Up On Filter And Hose

I noticed some white build up on my filter and clear tube (for the air bubbles) in my tank. Is this a good thing? is it good bacteria?

Also, sometimes when I clean items in my tank I notice that they are slimy. What is this, and is it good?

That slimey feeling is just algae starting to build up Dave. Nothing to worry about but you can give them a wipe down when you do your weekly maintenance.

Not too sure what the white build up is so I'll let someone who knows more answer that

I have the exact same white build-up on my air pump tube and also where the glass is joined in the corners. It doesn't appear on the glass surface at all....I think it has something to do with whatever they use to glue/seal the glass.

I tried to clean it off a week ago and it sent the water all cloudy and the fish straight to the bottom, things were touch and go for a while. I don't recommend scapping it off unless your doing a water change at the same time.
