Bubbles...rex And Lewis

aw....poor Danio. :( was he ok?

i have a funnel part to it to stop gravel going up...maybe i should use that? x

Yeah, he was fine, I netted him straight away and popped him back in - no ill effects at all. Yes, I would use the funnel part of the siphon.

Is it bad that the mental image of the fishy traveling through the tube made me giggle a bit? That's good that he was okay. I use to get very paranoid doing wter changes on my fry tank. Even on my 40g community, I get worried and I am always checking the bucket before dumping out the water lol.

*Snigger* - it must be like going on the water chutes at the local swimming pool! I always check my buckets now, just in case.

I was adding a few fish the other day, floated the bag, added the water, floated again, netted the two new fish, added to the tank then walked to the toilet with the bag of LFS water to pour away and suddenly seen a darting movement, one of my Danios must have jumped in when I was adding a little tank water!! lol

The little guy was nearly flushed!!

Lol mine were small when I got them but they have grown up abit now. Corys are normally quite slow to grow mind you.

To sex them females are normally larger and when looking from above the females are fatter. The males have an almost 'T' shape.

Well ..the readings this morning were: Amm = 0 Nitrites = 0 Nitrates = 50.
I was advised to do my first w/c when the nitrates hit 40.
So i did one this morning...was very nervous, didnt wanna suck up the cory's. :/
did 25% w/c.
Post change stats: Amm = 0 Nitrites = 0 Nitrates = 5.....is it normal to drop that much??????
I'm worried my Nitrates are dying off? :/

Yeh its fine lol.

You dont have to worry about your nitrates 'dying off' they cant.

phew..as i didnt fully stock in the beginning i thought they would die off to just support the load i had.

I am so Happy that Lewis has started to come out from hiding...It adds that bit more colour to the tank...
Give it a week or so and i will up the cory's to 6

The nitrate test is very peculiar. Don't worry about it too much, just keep up a fairly regular maintanence regimen and things will be fine. Do a weekly water change (30% or so) and then do a monthly or bimonthly big change (60+%). This will keep the nitrates from building up too high for extended periods. Also, fasting your fish regularly (I do it once a week) is a nice way to keep the fish nice and healthy and also slow the nitrate build-up. Real plants are also a nice addition, but don't really keep the nitrates too low.

If I were you and your levels are all fine and dandy I would add those corys within the next few days. If your ammonia or nitrite hasnt gone up then your filter can support your current bio load so you may aswell just up the corys to 6 now. :hyper:

Thats what I would do anyway.

I'm jealous that you have fish. :p

It'll be my turn soon!

Nice to see you have fish though. See, told you you'd get there in the end!

yeah i did consider it...maybe a visit to the LFS tomorrow then? :D
Double 0's again tonight..so looking good. wonder why it was showing Nitrates then..before i gave up and put the fish in???

Cezza....thanks chick..hang in there you are narly done...then the good bit starts!

I still have Tanks 2 and 3 to finish yet...
With Tank 2..i lowered the ammonia to 3ml instead of 3.6ml..to see if would make a difference? This morning (12hr post dose) it showed Nitrite at 2.0ppm..which is a vast improvement. I also did a 50% W/C on that one today, so hopefully that will calm things for a while.

Tank 3 showed 0.75ppm for Nitrite this morning (12 hrs PD) so thats looking good.
