I heard that with the co2 units, the yeast ect... can travel up the pipe and get into the aquarium. And that a bubble counter can prevent this.

Do bubble counters go inside the aquarium or outside???? My tank is quite full and do not wish to add more extras inside it.

cheers

Usually a bubble counter will be placed outside the tank. The tube coming from the DIY bottle would go to the longer tube in the counter and the tube going to the tank would go to the other. You can literally count the bubbles that go through a bubble counter and if it is large enough it can catch any burp of yeast mix that comes from your DIY bottle.
There are also companies that sell a ladder type device for dissolving CO2, like Nutrafin, that call their ladder a bubble counter because again you can count the bubbles. These are not a bubble counter that would prevent yeast mix getting into the tank. This type is mounted as low as practical inside the tank to optimize dissolving the CO2.

Note that there is an excellent article just posted in the last week or so on drop counters over in the planted section. You'd probably enjoy reading it!
