I noticed it this morning and its got a bit darker throughout the day.. it kinda looks like a bruise? She has a similar mark in the same place on the other side too, tho not as bad. on the darker mark her scales look a bit sticky out. is it something to worry about?

i know it sounds a stupid thing to say but do these marks move slightly as she swims?

lol.. um no they dont seem to! I don't know it its related or not but I woke up this morning to find what seemed like a perfectly healthy male balloon upside down on the bottom of the tank :(

Stick out scales is dropsy.
Bruising is septicemia.
Once fish are upside down they rarely survive.

Once scales stick out organ failure fish never seem to recover once scales stick out.
Epson salt baths to help draw the fluids out.
Anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Thanks for your reply wilder, she's dropping fry atm aswell, dear of her!
Is it safe to treat her with the fry in the tank?

Think bacterial meds are fine with fry its more the parasite meds.
Maybe just half dose with the bacterial med to see how they go first.
Are her scales still sticking out.

Yeah they are, she's also got new patches on both sides inbetween her gills and eyes, not as bad as the one on her back tho. Couldn't make it to the petshop for meds today either coz I was busy fishing fry out of the tank lol, so will have to make a trip first thing.

Right, I've got some anti internal bacteria stuff... once I've put it in, will carrying on with daily water changes just make it pointless putting it in? My nitrate is still 40 and nitrite is 10, so is it safe to put the water changes on hold?

You just add the correct amount of med back to the water removed if you have to preform a water change.

Hows the fish doing.

Her bruises have all cleared up, and as far as I can see her scales that were sticking out all look ok now, she's been a lot more active today, compared to the last couple of days where she's just been sitting around in a corner.. I dont know if thats coz she was ill or if she was just tired after dropping her fry?

I noticed one of my other balloon mollies has some sticky out scales yesterday, but he still seems as active as normal, so hopefully the meds are working!

Ok good luck.

Sorry bless her R.I.P.
You did all you could so sorry.
