my new bogwood is turning my water brown will this clear up over time? I added it on sunday

cheers

Yeah it will clear up over time, but it will take a looooong time, like months or more, I used to have some in my old amazon tank and it slowly reduces down with water changes as the tannins leak out of the wood. its all good though makes for a more natural looking tank and also has anti bacterial properties. Personally I like it.

If you dont like it though I think carbon pads take out the tannins or it might be polyester pads, I can never remember which... only thing is with using these extra pads is you have to keep changing them, and I dont think you are best to have carbon pads in long term. :good:

ye water changes is the only way to clear it, some take over 6 months other in just a few week's.

The bogwood will release tannins unless the tannins are removed berfore the bogwood is introduced to the aquarium. To release it soak the bogwood in water. After about a week or so the water will be brown and then you replace the water with new fresh tap water. Repeat the steps about 5 times and you will have a tannin free piece or peices bogwood.

How long did you let the wood soak for? I've been told that sometimes up to 2 weeks is needed so that little or no tannins are released...

soaking does help a bit, but with my experience with bog wood, it has taken ages, mopani wood is the worst for it.
