Hi,

I have recently noticed that i have a covering of brown algae forming on my rock ornaments, stones and front of my glass just above gravel level. What is this usualy down too and whats the best way to clear it ?

My currents readings are all perfect and have been so for about a month now. Could it be that i leave my lights on for too long, usually about 12 hours? I have no live plants and only a 12 gallon tank with 3 cories, 4 phantoms and 2 honey gouramis (all very happy and active).

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5ppm

Any help would be aprreciated.

live plats will help remove the nutrients before the algae can use them and a little otto will help to eat it

normal in a new tank, it will recede in time, often cause by ammonia or slicates

an otto wont really help in a 12 gallon, you should keep atleast 4 and they will starve within a short period of time

think i have the same problem, i thought i didnt have the light on enough though  is it a yellowy brown algae? some of my danios are also turning a shade of yellow on their fins

Brown algae is normal in a new tank. You can rub it off, but it should disappear on its own in a few weeks.
