Is it harsh to keep a bristlenose in an aquarium that’s 60 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm (63 litres I think - 17 us gallons)? I think it’s a bit unfair on the fish as the tank will be too small but my better half thinks it’ll be ok. Does everyone agree with me?

Cheers
Andy

Your tank is 54 litres, which is roughly 14.5 USG.

Really BNs should be in something ahout twice that size.

BN info here

As long as the BN is small, and the tank is not densely populated it should be fine. Once the fish starts growing, then you'll have to relocate it i reckon. But really, Otos will be a better choice if you're after that kind of fish

Hi New Boy,

I have a bristlenose in a tank with the same measurements as you. He has been in there for 4 years and is 4". I wouldnt over stock the tank - I did have a huge Silver Gourami (6inch) in there with him and this worked fine. However I then added a few angels while I was waiting for my 160L tank to cycle and then the Gourami and BN started to fight. Over-Stocking I believe was the course as they were fighting for terratories. The Gourami is now in my 160L ruling the roost!!

So yes tank size is fine but keep with smaller fish or you will find that you need a bigger tank to accomodate the litter critters as they grow.

That tank size is ok for only small juveniles, not a fullgrown bristlenose. I know a male that's 7,5 inches long, even though they usually stay at 6 inches. Females grow to about 5 inches. I agree with @ombomb, the tank for a bristlenose should really be twice the size.
