Hi there,

We recently purchased some Live Rock from a mature tank and a couple of days later we noticed a couple of bristle worms. 3 weeks on we have seen a dozen at a time during the day ranging in sizes from 3cm's up to 15cm's. The odd thing is they are out during daylight and i have looked through lots of items on bristleworms and they are 'supposed' to be nocturnal!! We do not have any fish, crabs etc in the tank as yet as we are waiting for it to cycle but are now concerned that because the bristleworms are out during the day and are growing rapidly that maybe we should put a hold on introducing fish until we are sure they will be ok. Any ideas???

Thanks,
Kerri. :)

Mine are only nocturnal when there's something around to peck at them during the day. I'll bet if you were to put some aggressive hermits in there they'd be more tucked away. Basically if they're hungry and there's no reason for them not to be out, they will roam around and search for munchies when they feel like it.

I quite often see them out during lights on. You will probably find that they will frequently put in an appearance when you are feeding the fish.

I've never seen any bristleworms in my tank during the day.

mine are always out, day or night, feeding or not feeding
