I will be taking my fish with me for my 3 month stay on a friend's horse ranch this summer. My original plan was to leave th fish and entrust their care to my family, but I have decided to bring them along.

It is a 10gal planted tank with 3 guppies, 2 scarlet badis, and 6 crystal red shrimp.

I was thinking that instead on catching everyone up and putting them in smaller containers that I may be ale to just drain out all but 3" or so of water and leave the fish in their tank while I traveled.

Do you think this will work, or would it be best to scoop everyone up?

I'm leaving tomorrow, so need advice tonight. Otherwise I'm winging it and hoping for the best.

Don't move a tank with water in it, you run the rick of breaking it. Instead, move the fish in a cooler like you would use for taking canned drinks to a picnic or a football game and secure the lid. The darkness will calm the fish and the insulation will keep the temperature stable. As for the plants, uproot them and wrap them gently in layers of wet newspaper. Pack them in a styrofoam box or fish bags out of the sun. They will survive.
