I was at the pet store getting fish food and saw some baby severums only 1". I got my nip at 1" a year ago this month. Now he is 6" almost 7". Seeing the little babies at the store make me think of how big mine has gotten it makes me proud. Any one feel
this way when you see young ones?

Any photos or before and afters would be fun.

Its always fun looking back at how our fish have grown. Below is a picture of my Electric Blue Jack Dempsey a few days after i bought him in October 2008. For an idea of how big he in this picture look at the foreground plant, its cryptocoryne parva. He's dinky at about 1" maybe 1.5" in this picture. He used to tear around the tank like he owned it, mouthing off at everything from tetras, to my flying foxs and even my opaline gourami pair. He was adoreable

And here he is 2 weeks ago. Certainly turned into a bit of a bruiser now :) Not quite as adoreable now, more just a brutal landlord, although as far as dempseys go he's a big ol' softy. He's just over 7" now, havnt noticed any growth recently, he's also very hard to measure as he doesnt stay still long enough to get a ruler in place

Wow now that's a ebjd good job. How long did it take for him to get that big? Because mine is a year and seems to have stopped growing but mine is a bit deformed. Yours is awesome. Did he come from a breeder?

I bought mine from a LFS for £25 in Oct 08, i don't know any breeders of dempseys in the UK, they must be out there but i havnt found them. He grew to rapidly in the first 6 months and got to about 4.5" in maybe 8 months or so. Then over the last 12 months he's slowed somewhat. I have a bigger tank coming for him in the next 2 weeks hopefully, so he might have a little growth spurt once i get him moved in who knows. Its almost been two years and he's gone from 1" to a littleover 7", not the fastest growing fish. They say the EBJD's get to 8" max, with normal JD's getting to 10" max. So i don't know if he will get any bigger.
