Are these supposed to be aggressive??? I have read they are quite peaceful and even take care of other young but mine is on its own as in its species and really aggressive to all the fish and even creeps on the bigger malawi.

Thanks

yes they are quite aggressive and chase fish many times their size. I bought a young pair and one promptly killed the other then set about terrorizing the rest of the tank. He is still less than 2" but chases my 3" plus gobies and even chases my sdult dolphins. Thankfully it isn't constant but I think I will need to move him on before he gets adult.

I have the 'Daffodil' variety and on the whole they are fairly peaceful for a Tanganyikan........until breeding time that is. They then tend to take over a fair portion of the tank and once the fry arrive they will defend vigorously!

However, with cleaver arranging of rocks I managed to 'corral' them into a corner of the tank in which they successfully brought up 2 batches before the female unfortunately died (of bloat or being egg bound I think)

Thanks for the responses, mine has been overly aggressive and have decided to give him in to the lfs. He's really fast though when he does strike for the fish lol and funny character in sum ways. I have to wait 2 weeks now before i can get the 2 julichromis from the swap of the johanni cichlid. The guy who imports in fish is on holiday :p but its worth the wait.
