I'm a noob to breeding bettas can someone tell me about it??

I know they do eggs. The only kind of breeding i'm used to is guppies and mollies. I have a male betta in my 15g community tank with guppies, tetras, a cory and a pleco. What else do I need (besides a female) and how does it work will my cory eat the eggs?? Thanks!

Yes, you are new. ;)

Check out the sticky's in this section. Read up, and then ask more specific questions. Check some other sites as well. Having the male betta is only start. You need a whole new tank JUST for the breeding.

you must have some pretty docile fish in that tank of yours, not really a good selection to keep a betta in

As constantine said. Read up on the FAQ's on here and Google betta spawning too, you can never do enough research on it, and fore warning, its far far from as easy as guppies etc. Takes more time, preperation and risk. Sorry if that sounds dreadful and like i'm trying to put you off, i'm not, but i'm not the sugar coating kind ;)

I'm sure every one will be more than happy to help with any other questions you have once you have read a lil on it :good:

a good read up is important,, after having bettas for months it still took me 2 months to get a batch of fry,,, house now has four tanks too,, i am staring to look a little like a pet shop haha. so if u do want to give it a go take your time,, the fish sure will..... lol :good:

If i was you i would follow the advice of the above posts, i rushed in to my first spawn and wish i hadnt, i was lucky though and managed to get all i needed in time, but there is much to take in, like having cultures (microworms and baby brine shrmp etc) for the fry and correct size tank for breeding, when to turn on filter, waterchanges, water level, putting female in chimney, and the list goes on, this is just a few things..

Have a good read of the pinned topics, get a full plan on what ya going to do, list all you need and ask many many questions to make sure you get it all right :)

Good luck.

breeding bettas is not easy, and going in blind is a real easy way to kill fish, I had just done my first spawn, everything set up PERFECT, mom and dad still took nips out of each other, dad ate most of the babies, and I came out with just one living fry so far.

read up and research as much as possible, after you do that, get a decent quality pair to spawn too, high quality bettas are easier to find homes for then average bettas.
