Ever since the day I got Galan, my blue CT, he has been building bubble nests (he sure has Mexican macho blood!), so I decided I would reward his efforts by getting him a female.
The reaction of both fish are good; when I put their tanks close to each other, they immediately went crazy! The female got stripes within 5 minutes of the encounter
So I quickly moved them out of eye sight since I was afraid they would get a heart attack before getting the chance to breed
But since it is going to be my first attempt, I want to make sure I am doing it right. Over the past weeks I have been drinking loads of frozen cappucinos to get enough cups to jar the fry. I consider these take-out cups rather ideal as they come with a cone type lid with a hole in the middle, which would prevent them for jumping out. I have also bought a fry grow out tank.
Since I have no clue on how to grow daphnia or other infusorio, and do not know anyone here that could help me with starting a culture, I thought of feeding them boiled egg yolk for the first days. Then I have identified a person that is selling vinegar eels, but since he is living far away, he has to send it to me. Now my question is whether I could get a large quantity at once, or whether they will go 'bad', and do more harm than good?
Another question I have is whether I should let them spawn in my male's tank, or set up the fry tank, and move both fish into there, and once the fry are free swimming remove the male? I personally think it is easiest to move the male back to his old tank, and keep the fry in the grow out tank, than to scoop up all the fry and leave the male where he is.
Any other tips or suggestions would be very welcome too!
