I don't know what to do with my girly-guppie, she must be about to have these darn babies, I feel like we've been waiting forever for them, but the "stud" just will not leave her alone. Every time she goes off to have some "me time" - there he is, hanging around, harrassing her.

I'm getting quite mad at him myself, with his poncy red tail and his pretty-boy good looks, I wish he'd just leave her alone. Grrrr.

Should I seperate her out so she can get a break from him? There are other girls in the tank but he only has eyes for her, guess he likes his women 9 months gone, pervert fish. What shall I do? Is he bothering her as much as he annoys me? should I step in or just stop looking

Anyone....?

I would put her in a breeding trap so he'll leave her alone. He's probably bothering bc she's about to drop her babies. :)

I would seperate her out. Hes going after her because shes giving off pregnancy hormones, and the males like the scent.

I guess you don't have another tank to put her in? As that would be the best option. Breeder traps and nets can stress the fish out sometimes, which can cause them to abort or having birthing difficulties. The lesser of the two evils of those would be breeder nets, in my opinion. I just wouldn't recommend you keep here in there more then a few days. Good luck! :)

I was mostly wondering if I should just let them behave naturally or should I intervene, we're not desperate for babies, if they have them - they have them, I'd like them to feel like they would in the wild (or as close as we can). He's just really getting on my nerves and I reckon he's getting on hers too.

I think I will seperate her out tomorrow :)

He's got four ladies but he only obsesses over this one, now she "with child(s)" he is outrageous. She can't move a fin without him being there.

There is one other juvi male in there but he isn't interested in the ladies and he hangs out with the hatchet fish - for some reason. We also have 3 juvi ladies, they just hang out on their own.

in my opinion and i beleive that annastasia told me this once (correct me if i'm wrong anna), even if you let her have the babies in the community tank, there is a chance that a couple, given the chance (i.e. plants, rocks, gravel) they will hida and munch on the food particles at the bottom as it falls into the cracks of the bottom out of reach for the bigger fish. at least that's my experience.

i had a female platty give birt hin the tankl and i not know it. i tried a breeder trap but it stressed her out and i know too much stress can harm or even kill a fish. so i decided a healthy girl is better than a bunch of fry (fish babies). well i had to clean out the tank from a crappy med i gave the tank (mostly for my female betta) and turned the tank a nasty blue-green because of the colored indicators in the meds (it didn't work at all). well turns out in the gravel as i was taking it out i saw and recovered 13 fry (10 of which lived). sure i eventually fed them to my male betta w/ a poor appetite (i couldn't see him starving to death-which i doubt he will), but the fact is that i thought all of them were eaten by the other fish, but 13 lived in the tank under the gravel.

good luck though :D

The problem of course is that she will likely suffer stress in either case: putting them in a breeder net is not generally recommended because it stresses them out, but then she is being stressed out by him already. In this particular case, the breeder net might be the least harmful option. There is no way you could get hold of a tank divider and give her a corner of the tank to herself?

i forgot the male was harassing her :X . yea the breeder trap would be the lesser of the 2 evils (so to speak). a divider would be the most ideal now that you mention it dwarfgourami

put the male in jail for a few days teach him a lesson
( put the male in the breeding net? if your realy that intrested about having the fry)
this way the female is total stress free.
obv the male could become more stressed but atleast hes not a pregnent female =]
