i was reading some tips on the net to breed and came upon this:

1. If you're having trouble getting your cichlids in the mood to breed, try pouring a small amount of cold water in the tank. This will simulate a rain shower, which is when they breed in the wild. Don't overdo it, though. I have done this, and my cichlids promptly follow by doing their thing

do you think this is true?

thanx

Adding cool water to a tank to trigger spawning is one of the oldest tricks in the book and works for most tropicals that are willing to breed in captivity, better yet use pure R/O water which has practically the same chemistry as rainwater (ie is almost pure).

cool, thanx for clarifying

i usually do a small water change with slightly cooler water.

I've heard of one person using a watering can to put cooler water in the tank to simulate rain

 I just did a water change and the water was colder than the tank water (the room temp of my basement, a bit chilly). The next day I noticed that 2 of my dwarf females were bright yellow and protecting caves! Must've been the cold water...

in my old 10 gallon when i first got it i didnt have a heater for the wc water so i would just put in a can of slightly warm and a can of cool watr and everytime i did it my cories would start to get frisky.

Whats so funny about that  i've used that method myself before, works a treat :)

Yes it is true,

I do a 20% water change using slightly cooler than normal water.
This is great for getting fish ready for the show bench and is a good way to help get them into condition. :D
This method is apparently very good for getting corydoras to breed.

That's why my Rams breed after a water change!
Like clockwork monday after all of there previous fry are gone. lol

I think it works to. I would do that when i refilled my dempseys tank and bam they spawned like afdter 2 week of doing thats and feeding crickets/shimp/pellets

i read that some guy used to leave them in a dark room with no lights on then put his arm in and flash the lights on and off to act like its lighting, this was for african cichlids, if you ask me the guy was a banana
