Breeding Setup

alright so im going to try my first spawn at the new house(the pair just started conditioning today), and im trying to plan in advance for where i want things to go and what not. i think im going to put the jarred fry on the shelf in the bathroom when the time comes unless i can find another spot for the shelf... iv already got a place for the spawn tank and the grow out tanks. thing is i would like to try to set things up so they are in the same general area, so i was wondering if anyone has any photos of their setups that they might be willing to share for ideas?
 
when my sis and i breed this is our set up
20 gal long, water half filled up
temp 80 to 82
our ph is very high 7.5 to 8, but our have grown accouston to it, ial helps this alot
indian almond leaf, ither a whole leaf droped in the tank or attisons betta spa
styrofom cup cut in half at one end of tank
lots o silk plants at other end
sponge filter, water level below top so it wont disturb nest

male and female well conditioned 2 weeks at least, in seperate tanks, by them selves, blood worms and other live food.

put the male in clean tank with fresh water, let him hang out for a few days to let him chill, our guys start to build a nest at this point,
then introduce the female in the chimney, he will alternate between building the nest bigger and displayin to her, after a day or two let her out , they can take minits or uop tp 24 hours to start wraping, let them be as long as they arent killing each other, when they are completly done and she swims afay tanke her out and dad stays with the nest, some males are good dads and other eat the eggs,, i found i like to steal some of the eggs and float them in a tupperwhere container in the tank, till they hatch, and dad takes care of the rest, if he dosent eat them, after they babies are swimming good dad goes out and babies are good to start eatin.


i use wardleys liquid fry the first week, then baby brine shrimp, then as they get older other foods, ground up blood worm, ground up betta food,daphina, brine shrimp and the like till 8 weeks, then they are on betta pellets, slightly crushed if they are still small, to 12 weeks then they gert adult pellets and are ready to be sold at 12 week
 
thanks for the refresher on spawning azul(i always like hearing the different methods people use) iv had spawns before, but that was when i had more space.... at this house i don't have as much space so im more curious on how people setup their spawns and jarred fry when they have them and don't have a ton of space.
 
This is how we jar up our babies when they are old enough. The large reptile heat mat works really well at holding them at the right temp :good:

if you realy dont have lots o space try a book shelf with wide shelves and many shelves, heat mats do work great but if you get hundreds of fry is not economical to use, try heating a small room? / closet? i have a small side room that holds all my breding fish and the like, summer just no ac winter a small space heater dose it nicely. and are thouse plastic jars netty? i found that plastice ca melt under too much heat, and some jars emit a plasticy oder when too hot, i like to use glasss, can break if droped, but can also throw in the dish washer for quick sanitation, but heat mats take longer to heat a glass jar, and i found that the entire jar needs to be fully on the mat, i think the glass insulates the jar itself and requires more heat
 
We've had no problems at all with the plastic melting Azul and it is quite cheap to run. Anyone concerned with it getting too hot could use a Thermostat to regulate the temp but we found it stayed pretty constant :good:
 
would a heat lamp work? i have a snake and a turtle so i have to use heat lamps at some point but would it work for the jarred fry in a contained area?
 
It might do. The best thing would be to set one up in the area you are thinking of, with some jars of water and pop a thermometer in to monitor the water temp. We move the thermometer around to make sure all the jars are at the correct temp.
