Hey all,

I want to start a small snail hatchery for my puffer. I was going to use a 1 gallon tubberware contianer, and wanted to know if this would need aeration or not. I got some snails, so i'm all ready. I'm guessing I should just use dechlorinated tap water? Should anything else be added to acheive an otimal mating environment? I will feed them pieces of vegtable + flake/sinking pellets.

Thanks,

DL

Well, I've been breeding the snails for the same purpose, and it seems that they breed better with some form of lighting. I just put them in a minibow 2.5gal that was laying around and its going good. All I put in the water is dechlorinator. It is set up with a DIY fish food pot filter, and light that came with the minibow. Thats it, no heater. Good Luck.

Thanks! It will get light (the container is by the window.) I guess i'll just keep it without a heater/filter and see how it goes. :good:

Right by the window is fine, just drop an algae wafer in there every once in a while or get a little anacharis for them and you'll be set. Just do a big water change every other week or so. But I will warn you, if you run without some kind of filter or you leave it without a water change for a few weeks, it will start to smell.

I do pretty much the exact same thing as above. Algae wafer or vegetable every other or every third day. Water change twice a week. Try to keep the temp up for faster growth.

Or you could get a 5 gallon tank and purchase some plants from Petsmart.....:grr:
There stuff is incrusted with them.

dont purchase the plants.... just pull them out of the tank when nobody is looking and shake the snails off into your pocket.   ^_^
