Breeding Going Well!

Hi every one,
fly are doing good, it seems like the bubble nest is transforming into fry; the nest is shrinking and fry count is growing.

can i feed my male? he's practically wasting away!( not really, but i think he's getting hungry and tired.)

Also, do i turn the light off for fry an night one male is removed or leave it on?

Thanks!

Once the male is removed you can turn the light off :good: As for feeding him whilst with the fry, some do, some dont?? We dont. It has been reported that feeding whilst with the fry can trigger the male into eating the fry so we dont take the risk.

about the fry food. i mashed some up even more and put a bit in cuz i was curious and am being a bit rushy. a few of the strong fry swam over and ate it off the surface! does that mean i can use the food?

Hi Rushy

The fry will live off their yolk sacks for 3/4 days, so no need to feed them until the male is removed. You may actually cause them problems by feeding too early. The majority of the fry are normally free swimming by day 3 or 4, then take the male out and feed the fry.

On a side note - When you remove the male treat him very gently and keep him in a quiet place. Give him good quality foods like betta pro or bloodworms. They can get really stressed when removed from the fry, as we found out when our cambo FT died an hour after removing. Probably stress induced heart failure.

Ok, I took the male out this morning; he's good.

The fry are so fun to watch! they dart aroung everywhere and are eating well :hyper:

That's great news....good luck with them :good: It can become quite obsessive watching them all the time.....so be warned lol

Congrats! We will expect pics as soon as possible.

Thanks. pics will be as soon as my camera can see them. I tried BBS today, I'll update on what happens.
