Breeding Box

Hello!

Does anyone see any reason why this would not work as a DIY breeding box for guppies?


I took an barely finished off basil container and poked a hole bunch of holes in it with a finish nail.

why not use a plastic container such as an ice cream tub

get rid of the label and any residual glue.
make sure it doesn't sink.
make sure the holes are small enough so the babies don't get out.
put some tank water in it each day to keep the water in it clean.

I had a hard time getting the label off and I thought it didn't really matter but I will see if I can get it off. Why don't you want it to sink? I think the holes are small enough. I tried to use a small enough nail. Why do you have to put tank water in? Won't it circulate itself because it is in the tank?

Put a whole lot of plant on the surface of your tank and do away with the breeding box.

I am getting frogbit soon but I will have to wait until it grows enough. This way I can make sure they survive right now. Thanks for the suggestion!

Honestly don't bother with the breeding box. It traumatizes the fish and with live bearers is completely unnecessary. You will be overrun with them soon enough.
