In the last week the build up of Algae on the side viewable has increased quite a bit. I don't mind not being able to see inside from some angles very well in the short term, but is the only affect it will have? When it comes to setting the second bunch free I'm going to try and see if I can salvage the net and clean it up to a suitable standard. Could tights be used to save having to buy a new net everytime?

Tights will do fine. You're not likely to get the netting back to white from the green algae color. That's not a big deal, but most of the algae should come off with some bleaching and rinsing and sitting out to dry for a day or so. If you are experiencing a lot of algae, you might want to cut back on feedings and lighting to the tank. Although not designed for algae treatment, Flourish Excel does get rid of algae and can be used for spot treating. It's really not recommended unless you have plants in the tank as that is what will be requiring the carbon dosing.
