i'm getting a new bigger tank (over 75 gal) and want to get at least 1 oscar and ,aybe a jack dempsey. my question is after i get 1 oscar can i just get i jack dempsey or do i need at least two?

i don't have the tank yet i'll get it after i decide on what exactly will go in it by deciding the absolute minium and getting a little bigger than what i need. i would be satisified with 1 oscar and maybe 2 jack dempseys or maybe 2 oscars and 1 jack dempsey

any suggestion are welcome, please keep in mind i'm definetly not new to fish keeping and know all about cycling, water testing etc....

Some have had success housing JDs and oscars together, and some have had their JDs shred their oscars. What size fish are we talking about, here? If you get them small and raise them together they'll be more likely to tolerate one-another... either way, if you put two of either fish in the tank you run the risk of them forming a breeding pair, in which case they'll probably get so aggressive when protecting their eggs that they'll maim anything that comes near. Personally, I'd just go with a pair of oscars, but I'm obviously biased (check out the ava ;) )
