Hi ...

I have been directed to this forum to discuss Brackish tanks.

I am new to Brackish and Salt added tanks.

Can anyone explain how to start and what is required.

I am going for a brackish fish called a Green Spotted Puffer.

Thanks in advance ...

I have kept them in normal fresh water and thus recommend that they are not kept with regular fish. Mine was with Blue Acara (port) and actually bit chunks out of them.

Would you not be better served by posting in the brackish forum for advice on brackish fish?

At the very least, I would advise you read the brackish FAQs.

Ok Tim...you're posting to many posts again

This is exactly what I said:

It depends on how much water you're mixing with. Try a bit and see where it stands. Starting off it's trickier b/c you have to find the right amount instead of after a while when you kinda know.

===edit
do a search in the sw section to find more info on mixing it :)

Notice I said do a SEARCH about mixing it...not posting a brackish ? in the sw section.

The search button is on the top bar almost all the way to the right. :good:

If it happens to not be working atm, wait a tid bit and try again. Or try googleing also. I'm sure there's a ton of info out there. :)

Dude...they are NOT freshwater fish. They live shorter lives and generally don't do as well if they are kept in freshwater.

Off course they're not freshwater fish..... read my sentence again....I said I kept mine in freshwater..... neither are Scats or Monos, but they too can be weaned to fresh water... (I've caught all of them in a casting net some kilometers inland (in rivers) and then also in the sea (totally marine)

But you kept them in freshwater...that was my point. they are not freshwater fish and should not be kept in such for their long term health. Just b/c they venture to fw and sw in the wild doesn't mean they can bet kept in such in the aquaria in the long term.

I just don't want tim to think he can keep them in fw long term b/c they don't as good or live as long...that's all :)
