We have a 36 gallon with

5 gold mollies
4 bleeding heart tetras
2 emrald cat fish
1 african dwarf frog

We have read that mollies do better in brackish water, however we are concerned that brackish water might harm the others in the tank. We have gotten mixed advice from some pet store workers. One said the other fish would be fine, the other said any salk was kill the others in the tank.

Opinions?

Mollies are very hardy fish. They live just as happily in freshwater as they can in brackish. Do not mess with your salinity. Just keep the water as it is. However, I suggest you complete your schools. The tetras and the corydoras both need larger groups than you have.

You are right in thinking the brackish water would be harmful to the other tank members. In fact, it would kill them.

The molly is a brackish fish and can even live in a full marine tank. However, it also does exceptionally well in completely freshwater without any salt at all.

So there is no need to add salt and if you did it would kill off the other fish.
