Brackish fish that aren't

I suspect what you're getting at is that common names are often useless. Fine enough for guppies and neons, but once you advance to keeping oddball fish, cichlids or really anything other than the top 20 community fish, you should rely on scientific names. The irony is that everyone thinks these Latin names are tricky to use: but they're a lot easier to deal with than ending up with the wrong fish!

Naomi Delventhal suggests that mystery gobies be kept at SG 1.005. That won't harm freshwater species, and will maintain brackish water species adequately well almost all of the time. That's probably a good approach to take with other difficult to identify species such as soles, puffers, archers, and indeed tigerfish. Certainly choosing to keep these fish with salt-tolerant freshwater fish is probably wise, so at least you have the option of adding salt if needs be.

Cheers, Neale

The problem with this is that too many people group all datnoids in as "Siamese tigers". Only the pulchers are "Siamese tigers" and they are fresh water the only 2 datnoids found sometime in brackish conditions are the AT and NGT, and even these 2 are kept in full fresh water with no problems
