Hi there, Next thursday I will be aquiring a 170Litre fish tank, the foot print is 48"x12" so here goes my questions:

How many F8's would you comfortably put in there?
How many BBG's would you comfortably put in there with the F8 Puffers?
Will SG 1.005 be ok, or should I aim for higher?

Many Thanks

1.005 is perfect fine for T Biocellatus
BBG's are tiny and have a minute bioload so depending on planting etc you could put 20 or so in there.
35 Gallons so again assuming its well planted loads of places to explore and hiding areas should the need arise you could put 5 or so

Other options are 4 T Biocellatus and some wasp fish for bottom dwellers rather than BBGs'

this is based on a decent level of over filtration and regular maintenance

You are aware these are brackish so you will need marine salt and a hydrometer. Dont waste your money on a refractometer for brackish as you dont need to get the SG exact each time you mix up a water change :)

Yeah mate I realised the requirements of brackish, and I understand the waters in the wild fluctuate SG ratings from time to time?, so an exact reading isnt neccesary, so a cheap hydrometer will do?

Ooops forgot to say thanks

Thanks :D

I think i paid about 9quid for my hydrometer, as long as you get it near to what it was the previous time they will be fine, and top off the tank water with fresh as the brackish starts to evaporate they will be fine.

Im getting rather excited as my plants should arrive this week for my Fig8s tank, im binning all the fake ones....nasty things....

On a side note when you go to get your Puffers don't let the LFS person lift them out of the water when bagging them for you as it can stress them to the point where they gulp air which isn't good. I had to burp a friends Puffer who did the same when it jumped from the tank......imagine me holding a rather large Puffer in one hand whlie gently rubbing its tummy until it "burped" and deflated....

Eeek somehow I can picture you doing that :D

Yeah well, Im going to do this properlly unlike my mbuna which was a bit of a make do :D, Im not going to put water in or anything until ive got the substrate filtration etc, and im going to do the decor before I put water in as I understand puffers need a nice enviroment to explore.

I was thinking 5 Puffers and 15 BBG...

Also what type of plants go well in brackish apart from val
