I just bought a tank set-up from my lfs. It was on sale for an awesome price. I got it all filled up and went to put the hood on and realized that it wasn't fitting right. Then I saw that the front of the glass is bowing out a bit about this much ------ It isn't meant to bow out and when I felt the glass it wiggled. I'm feeling very nervous that it could just bust. The brand is Tereon. It is a 25 gallon long tank.

Is this normal for the longer tanks?

Help!!!

I've just done some reading and read that some bowing is normal. I'm not sure what normal is though?

hi elizabeth, does your tank have support bars across the front and back and front to back? if it hasn't then this is more than likely the reason its bowing.

A little bit of bowing is normal, but if your lid won't fit, I'd take it back. :/

Think of the mess if it bursts. :X

Hi James, No it doesn't have support bars. Here are the measurments of the tank:

Length: 38 inches
Height: 14 inches
Width: 10.5 iches
Thickness of glass: 4.5mm

Ugh, I'm stressed :-(

mine has a long thin bar of glass going down the front and back, with a thicker bar joining the 2 across the middle, this is something you could stick on yourself, if you are ok with a bit of diy

sakaspuds:

I've never added my own bars..how do I go about doing that? Could I glue in just 2 bars of plexi-glass or do I need to do it all around the edges and then 2 bars??

i would take it back if i were you, the tank is not safe. a mate of mine cracked one of his support bars and it weakened the tank so much he couldnt fill it more than 1 thired.

you could use plexiglass, you wold need 2 long thinner strips to silicone to the front and back of the tank, and a wider center brace between the 2 it wouls have to be fully sealed to the glass and left to dry complety before you refill the tank, a good quality aquarium grade silicone would set in 24 to 48 hours

Called the store and talked with the guy I bought it from and he said he is going to call the manufacturer on Monday. Don't really know how that gonna help but ok.

I'm thinking of having my boyfriend glue in some bars...but I don't want him to do anything until we know how it's supposed to be done. Anyone have any DIY websites that show you how to glue in the bars?
