I went to my LFS looking for females for a sorority...and I come home with one male lol.....they had only one female and she looked a little worse for wear, then I saw HIM -
he is a veiltail with a pale white/lavendar/blue body and red, blue, green, and purple fins - he was staring at me the whole time I was looking at the other vases looking for females, turning this way and that so he could keep me in his line of vision...he was on a shelf with a few broken lights so I couldnt get a good look at him, I picked up his little vase and moved him to a section with light and he was beautiful! he shaked around as if to say "Finally! I was trying to get your attention for five minutes you crazy lady!"

So i took him over to the counter, vase and all, had them bag him and took him home.

isn't he lovely? I was so prepared for a sorority but I couldn't resist him! He is right now settling into a ten gallon with a school of albino cories, an ADF, and a couple plain female guppies....

here he is staring me from inside the bag -

I am now trying to figure out a name for him...I have two 25watt blue lightbulbs in my tank which make him look even more stunning (plus with the school of albino cories it looks very cool)

ooohhhh.
i love him! handsome boy. love his coloration and markings.
have fun with the new guy:)
cheers

very nice, all of these bettas have got my better half wanting to put one in our community tank (good job I know better)

Hi Congrats on your new boy, The first thing I thought of when I saw the with flash photo was "Lightening" I think this name suits his colurs...good luck picking a name
P.S. Jenste...what plants do you have in the tank with him....plastic or real or silk? They are nice

I have a mix of real and plastic - the plastic was originally tossed in before I got him to give the fry some shelter - I am going to do a rescape tomorrow to make sure I don't have any plastic plants in there that can tear his fins - most of my plastic is round and soft - I DO know that there are no pointed leave plastic ones in there....but I will double check by taking them out, drying them off, and dragging a tissue over them - if the tissue tears then that means his fins would be in danger of being torn (probably overworried but rather safe then sorry!)

he is a cutie, isn't he? so far his favorite buddy is one of the albino cories - he likes following him around

when my Betta tank is finally cycled I plan on putting either corys or minnows in with him, what do you think

I have always put cories and ADF in with my bettas - I only advise ADF if you are up to the extra work they need - mainly when it comes to making sure they get food! they can't eat betta pellets or fish flakes!

if you do add cories - make sure your tank is large enough to support a fullgrown school (meaning at least 4, preferrably 6+)

and when you add them, take your betta out, rearrange your decorations and plants to make it look like a brand new tank, add the cories, and THEN add the betta - this way he accepts them as part of "his" territory and thinks of them as "belonging" just like the sand, plants, and decor

but it definitely makes the tank more interesting - I esp like how my cories and betta look with the mostly white/light bodies with the blue lights. it doesn't photograph well but in person the effect is impressive!

A few more pics now that he (still no name) has settled in!
